why are there diapers in here?

this week we have be visiting great grandma tina. she recently had a stroke and needed to be moved into an assisted living home. the new place is called the commons and it is about 3 miles from our house. it is a very nice place and i think she's starting to get acquainted with it. tina has a hard time remembering. she remembers us and things that happened 50 years ago but she can't remember yesterday or this morning. anyway the commons has a gated childs play area which makes it the perfect place for michael. well last night they were having a concert (tina had not remembered this) so we couldn't go in there instead we had to go to her studio apartment. which would have been fine if i didn't have michael with me. so here are the four of us in a little apartment that is not meant for kids and we're trying to relax and chat. michael found some cough drops by the side of the bed and kept trying to eat them lillian was opening every cupboard and asking why g-grandma has diapers in her closet. finally i suggested we try to go back downstairs and see if we can go to the play area. luckily they were done with the program. on our way out there was the old guy that they always portray in the movies the typical old bachelor that wears a velour track suit. he even had a gold chain round his neck and the jacket was unzipped to mid-chest. it was hard not to laugh as he approached to chat with us.
today we went again for lunch with tina and you would think these people had never seen a child. they kept coming over to the table and chatting with the kids, who were all too happy to be the center of attention. I must say i have never seen so many walkers in one room. they also had another singer today, tina didn't remember about but at least we could use the play area. this singer doesn't have any music he just sings. he brings his own mic and speaker and he sings.he sings all kinds of songs and apparently does them in character too. he sang if i were a rich man from fiddler on the roof and with the accent he used i could hardly understand what he was singing. there were a couple of times when he didn't hit the notes but i guess most of the people can't hear anymore so it's ok.
lillian and michael love visiting tina. they run up to her and give her a big hug. i must say it is very cute no wonder the old folks love it when they come by. maybe eventually they will be hugging everyone.
also i hate snow.
